Hiya everybody.

I've got good news for you...and bad news for me Tongue

Now that GM8 finally supports pngs (and pngs support alpha channels) we can load partially transparent acs and outfits into the game.

Check my signature for the first helmet with transparency (Black Ace Helmet - Shooting Star Rockman 3)

I'll propably have to update the guide on how to create outfits, but if you don't plan to add any transparency you can just continue as usual.

The downside for me is that I now have about 200 files I have to open, remove the background color, save as 24bit png.

This will be some stupid work, but it will be worth it =)

BlaXun

Edit: uh, the other downside is that each acs/outfit file is now about 5 times the size it had before.

That isnt a downside, its a feature!

(This might help you figure out the difference, even though it refers to a different problem: http://www.globalnerdy.com/2007/12/04/bug-vs-feature/).

Anyways, its pretty awesome that we get partial transparency. Also, good luck with all the changing D:

Yoyogames are such moronic fags that don't even think when they make new features.

Or atleast an item that does it.
That would be cool. Grin

Why not make a super small script to check the corner pixel and see if it is transparent or not? Or load it, and if that doesn't work load it without transparency, or something like that. That would be a lot easier.

GM8 (developed by Yoyogames) has many great new features...
Give some proof for what you say...

Yes! My favourite feature would be:
The automatically changing script window size.
hmmm...
maybe also the auto-completion that prevents you from using the tab key.

No, seriously, GM8 IS better than GM7.
But I really don't know how these minor changes could take that much time.
Yea, maybe the major changes aren’t visible, but they could have tried to make the whole navigation more innovative. If you have a big game like Slime Online, you lose track of all the objects and scripts quite quickly.
I mean, how much time would it coast to make a professional search engine? Not like that rediculous ctrl+f search, that only supports full names.
They meant it good, but it’s just not good enough.

That’s my opinion

You're right. It's not like YoYoGames crapped up the face of Game Maker. I love how the developer(s) have implemented an 80's feature so your mouse goes wherever it clicks, and how it's sprite editor is so hard to get used to. Oh! I also love how in the script editor, the way it guesses what you're typing.
Fact: Gay Maker AKA Game Maker 8 is the main reason I'm moving to C++.

The fact that you have to re-do a whole bunch of your game? That's enough reason; they are getting paid for all of this, so they should live up to people's standards and serve them instead of having them serve themselves. You don't work as much on Slime Online anymore as was once the case in its glory days, and now the limited time you do have to spend is wasted on what? Having to edit 200 files? Plus, the size five times as big.

Just because they do good things, doesn't mean the bad things don't matter anymore. (And, of course, the other way around could be applied to this case, but I don't see that as relevant as they are the ones to serve the users. How else do they expect to make money?) I don't doubt that GM8 with its many new features is better than GM7, but the service YoYogames delivers is way under the expected standard.

Just what exactly do you propose? PNG support is a huge advantage that really should have been in GM7. It's not like they can make a way for your old sprites to automatically become transparent pngs without you doing anything... However you CAN leave them as is and they will still change it to transparent. I suppose BlaXun just wants it to be consistent by having all of the actual images transparent.

In fact, forgive me if this seems rude, but have you ever even used Game Maker? Anyone with a bit of experience should realize that it's a huge plus, and Yoyogames did improve the image editor quite a bit for GM8.

I will say that I was expecting a bit more after how long at had been since GM7... But nonetheless GM8 offers enough improvements that it's well worth the upgrade.

The sprites you already got in Game Maker become automaticly transparent, no change to do. I don't know why Blax need to re-do all this, maybe his sprites aren't in the game file...

Learn to read. Service != features.

Ah, that explains a lot. He externally loads them.

You think Mark would be able to provide a better service on his own?

No, but I'd expect better from a company than the actual delivered service. Only the best for the customer or at least that's what people should expect from something they pay for. They're funny though, especially when they're not joking around; with their ridiculous new logos and stuff.

Just 'cause it can be worse, doesn't mean it isn't bad enough like it is.
